Billy & the Kids w/ Billy Strings

From Grateful Mahalo to Dead on the Rocks: Watch The Grateful Dead’s Bill Kreutzmann lead his incendiary band Billy & the Kids — featuring “honorary Kid” Billy Strings joined by Aron Magner (Disco Biscuits), James Casey (Trey Anastasio Band), Reed Mathis (Electric Beethoven) and Tom Hamilton (Joe Russo’s Almost Dead). Live From Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado this coming Monday and Tuesday: July 12 and 13.

Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann celebrated his 75th birthday in May with three nights of Billy & the Kids from a secret garden on the North Shore of Kauai. The band’s lineup was enhanced with the addition of Trey Anastasio Band’s James Casey on sax and featured “honorary Kid” Billy Strings on guitar and vocals. Carlos Santana even showed up on the last night to play with the Kids, and Bill Nershi (String Cheese Incident) joined the party for a surprise bonus acoustic set. The shows, called Grateful Mahalo, became the livestream event of the year.

But they were performed without a live audience; beamed into living rooms worldwide. Sensing the additional magic that would happen by adding a full capacity crowd, the band — preserving the special Grateful Mahalo lineup — announced that they would be coming to Red Rocks for a very special two nights of Dead on the Rocks. This is not part of a tour. These shows will be special.
